Louisville is starting the year off with ACC play, not some non-conference cupcake. Instead it could be an in-conference cupcake, Georgia Tech. Louisville is coming off an 8-5 year and turning over a new leaf with Jeff Brohm back and he brought a quarterback with him from Purdue.

Jack Plummer will be the starting QB for the Cardinals in Week 1 and BetSided college football betting insider Reed Wallach thinks that Plummer will have a big game against Georgia Tech.

The launch of legal sports betting in Kentucky is just around the corner, and with college football season already here fans in the Bluegrass state are understandably getting tired of waiting.

Well, DraftKings knows how tough this wait can be, so they’ve decided to go ahead and announce a massive pre-registration promo so you can cash in before you even get to place a single bet. How does a guaranteed $200 bonus just for making the account you were planning to make anyway sound?

Let’s take a look at the odds for this one where Louisville is over a touchdown favorite. Wallach’s eyes are on the total because of what Plummer and opposing quarterback Haynes King can do.

Georgia Tech vs. Louisville odds, spread and total

Betting expert for prediction for Louisville in Week 1

Wallach expects a great debut from Plummer, but it’s not all about how good he is, it might be even more about how poor Georgia Tech is on defense.

  • Last season, Georgia Tech finished 98th in success rate on defense.
  • Georgia Tech was top 50 in sacks, but lost their leading pass-rusher, Keion White to the NFL and will be worse against the run without White as well.

He also thinks the Louisville defense might not be a whole lot better at stopping Haynes King. That’s why Wallach loves the over in this one instead of just backing Louisville -7.5.

  • Louisville is returning just 52% of production on defense which ranks 90th in the country.

Jeff Brohm plays fast and throws the ball a lot, so against a weak defense like Georgia Tech, Wallach expects Plummer to have a great day. The run game should have success as well and points will be scored all over the field. With Georgia Tech no longer running the triple-option, King will be able to push the ball downfield and maybe even keep pace with Plummer and the Cardinals.
