Louisville Football: 3 keys to beat Duke’s Defense
By Caleb Hall
No. 2: Run the ball effectively with or without Jawhar Jordan
Jawhar Jordan was in for the first few plays against Pitt a few weeks ago but was taken out and never returned in that game. Jordan had another week of rest during the bye, but per Jeff Brohm this is where he stands on returning this saturday:
"Jawhar, we want to get him healthy. He had a hamstring issue last week, we’ll see where that goes. We got to try to get him back to game feel. I’m hopeful that we can this week, but we’ll see as this week progresses."
It really is looking like a 50/50 chance if jordan plays this week against Duke or not. However, if he doesn’t play Louisville still needs to make rushing the ball a priority against Duke on saturday.
Isaac Gurrendo and Maurice Turner are good runners in this system and Brohm should not hold back just because the lead back is out. Gurrendo against Pitt had 2 TDs and 38 rushing yards, while Turner had 81 yards on ten carries against the Panthers as well. They are capable backs and have the ability to run the football effectively against this Duke front.
Brohm held back against Pitt running the football, and it is a mistake he needs to avoid against the Blue Devils.
