What are the keys for Louisville to beat Virginia Tech on both sides of the ball?

Louisville cannot overlook this 4-4 Virginia Tech team, and an ACC championship hangs in the balance. They may still be high on a win over Duke, and they cannot have another let down against an “inferior” opponent.

Virginia Tech will likely try and make Louisville respect their passing game, and try to get Kyron Drones out in space for big plays. The Cardinals have struggled slightly with containing mobile quarterbacks this season. Thomas Castellanos had a 39 yard TD run on them in the Boston College game earlier this year. Louisville was able to contain Riley Leonard, but I’m not sure how accurate of a runner Leonard was in that game based off his recent injury.

It will be interesting to see how the Louisville defense reacts to Drones and Tech’s rushing attack.

The Louisville offense will likely want to get up early so they can run the ball more and make Virginia Tech more one dimensional. Tech wants to run and pass the ball, so if Brohm and the defense make it more uncomfortable for Tech, the better it will be.

Plummer will need to have a good game and make the throws needed for 1st downs, while the defense can’t allow Tech to convert on the big plays they have had in recent weeks.

As long as Louisville comes out and plays up to their competition they should be able to contain the Hokies. But if the Cardinals come out flat, it could be another unpredictable afternoon for 3:30 ACC football.
