What are Louisville’s chances of making the CFB Playoff according ESPN’s playoff predictor?

The Louisville Cardinals were ranked 13th in the latest CFB Playoff rankings for the 2023 season, and they are looking to win the ACC and sneak into the college football playoff come late December.

ESPN released a tool that lets you pick and choose certain scenarios that could happen in the college football season, and gives that team a percentage on the probability of them making the CFB Playoff. I took a look at the tool and played around with the current top 13 teams and how likely ESPN thinks Louisville will make the CFB Playoff, let’s take a look.

The tool lets you pick between the top 14 teams, if they win out or not, who they lose to, and if they win or lose their conference championship.

What does the predictor think Louisville’s chances are?

I picked Louisville to win out and win the ACC championship. The tool gave the Cardinals a 24% chance to make the playoff and a 2% chance to win the championship. I then tried Louisville winning out but losing the ACC championship. The results were quite low, with a less than 1% outlook of that happening.

I would say that is pretty realistic, since other teams could still be undefeated over Louisville if they win out as well. But still 24% is a decent enough shot for the Cardinals.

But What about other teams that are in Louisville’s way?
