Louisville dominated Virginia Tech in a must win ACC game yesterday

The Louisville Cardinals showed up on the football field yesterday as they took down the Virginia Tech Hokies in a 31 point victory. With the win the Cardinals put themselves into 2nd place in the ACC, and will likely be playing Florida State in the ACC championship, as long as they don’t slip up in the next 2 games.

Louisville seemed to dominate the Hokies from the opening kickoff. The defense played stout, the running backs were all over the field, and Jack Plummer made enough plays to lead the Cardinals to victory. Virginia Tech had a couple good moments throughout the game, but Louisville dominated nearly every aspect of the game. The Hokies had no answer for the Louisville running backs, and even without Jamari Thrash the Cardinals still had some decent catches from their wide outs.

A huge win is an understatement for what happened yesterday, and the Cardinals have their season ahead of themselves, they just need to stay focused. Here is at look at the 3 most important takeaways from yesterday’s monumental conference win:

3. Jack Plummer is at his best when the run game takes center stage

Jack Plummer has certainly had some moments this season with Louisville, but in the past 2 weeks he seems to be at his best when he is not the center of attention. Louisville threw the ball just 12 times yesterday, and completed the ball 11 times for 146 yards and a TD.

Brohm has seemed to have learned a lot from the Pitt loss, and has been running the ball a lot more since that game. Plummer threw the ball 50 times in the loss and has only thrown it 27 times in the 2 games since that loss. Plummer is not a QB who can lead a team down 21 to a victory. However, he can guide the offense and make some difficult throws when it is needed. The defense and running game carries this team, so if Plummer can just guide the offense and not make mistakes, Louisville will be in a good position to win football games.
