Louisville Outlasts Miami To Take The Howard Schnellenberger Trophy
By Caleb Hall
Louisville beat Miami in an epic shootout, taking home the Schnellenberger trophy and gained an ACC Championship berth
The Louisville Cardinals took on the Miami Hurricanes today, and it was hard fought battle. The Cardinals eventually took home the 38-31 victory, but Miami gave Jeff Brohm’s team all they had. Miami and the Cardinals were all tied up at 14 at the end of the 1st quarter, and that pretty much set the tone for the rest of the game.
The game was full of big plays on the ground and through the air. Miami had 486 yards of total offense and gashed the Louisville defense for big plays all day. Louisville also was successful on the offensive side of the ball too. Quarterback Jack Plummer looked okay through the first 3 quarters, but really exploded in the 4th where he made all the plays he needed to make to help Louisville win the football game. Plummer was undoubtedly the MVP of the game, and made necessary plays when they needed them most. The Cardinals once again showed out in the 4th quarter, as they outscored Miami 15 to 3.
Jawhar Jordan and Jamari Thrash played (although they were clearly not at full health) and they did not contribute a lot to the offense. However, players like Isaac Guerendo, Chris Bell, Kevin Coleman, and Joey Gatewood continued to step up in this game. Brohm called an excellent game, and with everything on the line he led the Cards to a much needed win.
Louisville gained a birth to go the ACC Championship game in two weeks against #4 Florida State and took home the iconic Howard Schnellenberger trophy. Along with beating Miami for the first time at Hard Rock Stadium.
Brohm broke and renewed traditions today, and Louisville will look to renew another one next Saturday as they take on the Kentucky Wildcats in a rivalry showdown.
