Louisville is still at #10 in the CFB Playoff Poll, should they be higher?
The Louisville Cardinals came in at the same spot they did last week in the College Football Playoff Poll, at #10. The Cardinals were looking like they would take the #9 spot in the poll, but after Missouri’s win over Tennesse 2 weeks ago they jumped 5 spots from #14 to #9.
The weird part about it is that Missouri has 2 losses and Louisville only has 1.
Missouri is 8-2 with losses to LSU and Georgia, with their best wins being over Tennesse and Kansas State. As of right now Kansa State stands at #19 and Tennesse is at #21. Missouri and the only teams they have beat on the road are Vanderbilt and Kentucky, who are both near the bottom of the SEC standings.
Louisville is 10-1 with their only loss being to Pittsburgh on the road this season. Their best wins of the season are on the road against #22 NC State, #19 Notre Dame at home (ranked #10 at the time), and Duke, who was ranked #20 at the time, and if their QB Riley Leonard doesn’t get injured they would probably be ranked today.
Missouri does not have a ranked road win, and for all the talk about playing in the SEC they have not played that hard of a schedule. They play a total of 4 road games and their toughest test by far on the road has been #1 Georgia. Playing Georgia is a big test and being competitive in that game does mean a lot. However, the committee needs to look at wins over close losses.
Louisville also has one less loss than Missouri, so does the CFB Playoff committee think Missouri has a better chance of making the playoff than Louisville? That seems ludicrous to think since the Cardinals have one less loss.
When looking at both teams strength of schedule Missouri outshines Louisville, but if you look at both teams strength of record Louisville is #10 while Missouri is #11. Both teams have 2 ranked wins but Louisville has one less loss.
It seems like basic knowledge that the Cardinals would be above the Tigers when looking at both of the teams schedules.
Hopefully some chaos and a win against Kentucky will shove the Cardinals higher into the rankings next Tuesday.
