7. Virginia 8-4 (5-3)
Virginia is off to a good start in the year. They are 3-1 with a conference win. Their one loss is a close one to NC State. They will need to power through their next two weeks, with games against Florida State and Louisville. If they can weather the storm, then the Cavaliers could put together a solid season. Their schedule after the Louisville game is not particularly demanding. Expect Virginia to challenge Florida State and may even beat Louisville. The Cavaliers should make a bowl game and have a solid season overall.
6. SMU 8-4 (6-2)
After a playoff appearance last season, SMU had high hopes for itself this year. They have not had the best start. They are 2-2 on the year, with both losses coming against Big 12 opponents. However, the Mustangs' season is not over, and they can still make a push in the ACC standings. Their conference schedule is mediocre, but SMU has returned a solid team and should improve with it. They will not experience the same level of success they had last season, but will still secure a bowl appearance after winning eight games, including six ACC games.
