1. Safety

One of the Cardinals' biggest needs is at safety. Louisville not only lost three of its top four safeties from the 2025 season, but it has now lost one of its top safety commitments from the Transfer Portal. Louisville lost its starting safeties and two seniors, D'Angelo Hutchinson and JoJo Evans Jr., as well as key safety Corey Gordon Jr., who recently committed to Kansas via the Transfer Portal.

Louisville has added two safeties this offseason, including elite Iowa transfer Koen Entringer. The Iowa transfer was captain for the Hawkeyes in 2025 and logged a career high 73 tackles, four pass deflections, and one forced fumble last season. Now, he looks to be the leader of Louisville’s secondary as the Cardinals try to add depth alongside him.

Louisville lost Rowsey to the Transfer Portal yesterday, which was a major blow as he was a dominant defensive back at the FCS level. The Cardinals did add TJ Banks, a former 4-star recruit out of high school who earned offers from Alabama, Notre Dame, Georgia, and others. But with Louisville only having Entringer, Banks, and freshmen Micah Rice and Jordan Vann, the Cardinals must add two more players to this position group.
