Last night, the Louisville Cardinals baseball hosted the Kentucky Wildcats at James Patterson Stadium. It has been a disappointing season so far for both clubs, with Louisville sitting at 23-18 and Kentucky slightly better at 26-13. While neither team is where it hoped to be, the matchup delivered one of the most entertaining games of the season.

In a true offensive shootout, runs were scored in every inning except the top of the ninth, when Louisville finally shut the door on a 14-10 win over the Cats.

While offense came from all over the lineup, it was the top of the order that powered Louisville to victory. The first four hitters combined for eight hits, seven RBIs, and seven runs scored. That type of production is exactly what the Cardinals have been searching for—and could be a sign of things to come as the season progresses.

As a team, Louisville totaled 13 hits, including five extra-base hits and two home runs. They also showed impressive plate discipline, drawing 14 walks while striking out just five times. If head coach Dan McDonnell is going to guide this team to the postseason, this is the kind of offensive performance it will need consistently.

With plenty of standout performances, here are the three biggest stars from Louisville’s win:

3. Tague Davis, 1B

Sophomore Tague Davis continues to look like the next star in Louisville’s lineup. After a strong freshman season in which he hit .283 with 18 home runs and 52 RBIs, he has taken a massive leap in 2026.

Davis is now hitting .394 while starting all 41 games, leading the team with 24 home runs, 73 RBIs, a .906 slugging percentage, and a 1.396 OPS. The gap between him and the rest of the roster is significant—no other Cardinal is particularly close in those categories.

Tuesday night was another example of his all-around impact. Davis went 2-for-3 with three walks and scored three runs. While he didn’t record an RBI—an unusual occurrence given his season—he still set the tone offensively and consistently put pressure on Kentucky’s pitching staff.

2. Bayram Hot, 3B

Senior third baseman Bayram Hot has been one of Louisville’s most reliable players all season. Entering the game with a .372/.483/.615 slash line and a 1.098 OPS, he has provided steady production in the middle of the order.

Though not known primarily for power, Hot has delivered timely hits all year—and Tuesday was no different. He finished 2-for-6 with a home run and two RBIs, but it was the timing of his blast that mattered most.

After Kentucky tied the game at 8-8 in the sixth inning, momentum had clearly shifted. Zion Rose briefly reclaimed the lead with a solo shot in the seventh, but the game still hung in the balance. Two batters later, Hot launched a two-run homer—his eighth of the season—to push the lead to three and spark a five-run inning that ultimately decided the game.

It was a defining moment that flipped the momentum back in Louisville’s favor for good.

1. Zion Rose, INF

Zion Rose has been Louisville’s most dynamic player this season, and Tuesday night was no exception. In just 19 games, he is hitting .413 with five home runs and 25 RBIs, while striking out only eight times—a remarkable level of consistency.

Batting second in the lineup against Kentucky, Rose filled up the stat sheet. He went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs, a walk, and a strikeout, while also scoring a run.

Most impressively, Rose did not leave a single runner on base all night. In a game where Louisville had 27 baserunners, that level of efficiency from the No. 2 spot is invaluable.

His ability to deliver in key moments continues to stand out, and if he maintains this level of production, he could be the driving force behind a late-season push for the Cardinals.
