Defense keeps dominating
The Louisville football defense has been stifling this season. The Cardinals are coming off another impressive performance, forcing three turnovers against the Eagles. Linebacker T.J. Quinn and the secondary have been exceptional and are a big reason why the Cards have a 6-1 record. When the offense was struggling in conference play, this team relied heavily on its defense.
Louisville football ranks in the top 10 nationally in total turnovers forced this season, with 12 interceptions and four fumbles. Quinn’s running mate, Antonio Watts, has been at the head of the turnover production, hauling in three interceptions. This defense was the main reason behind the upset over Miami a few weeks ago, when it forced quarterback Carson Beck into throwing four interceptions. What the offense brings to the table can vary week to week, but the defense's sustainability is consistent every game.
Expect the defense to continue to shine and force another three-plus-turnover game. Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones has thrown an interception in three straight games and has been sacked multiple times per contest. It is natural to give credit to the secondary for all these turnovers, but the defensive line has just as much say in forcing them. The Cardinals' front is led by Wesley Bailey and Clev Lubin, who each have four sacks on the year and have been turning heads all year long.
