2. Assist-to-turnover ratio

Turnovers have plagued the Cards all season. When your top two scorers and primary ball handlers combine to average 5.1 turnovers per game, it’s difficult to shake that narrative. As a team, Louisville averages 11.9 turnovers per game. That number barely changes in their seven conference losses, dipping slightly to 11.7 per game.

The real difference is in assist production. On the season, they average 17.3 assists per game — good for a 1.45 assist-to-turnover ratio, which ranks 56th nationally among 365 Division I programs.

In their conference losses, it’s a completely different story. While turnovers stay nearly identical, assists drop to just 12 per game. That sinks their assist-to-turnover ratio to a concerning 1.025 — a mark that would rank 274th nationally.

The simplest fix would be cutting down on turnovers, but as intensity ramps up in March, that’s easier said than done. A more realistic solution is increasing assist numbers. More assists usually translate to better ball movement, higher-quality shots, and a more efficient offense. Louisville would greatly benefit from that type of execution in tournament games.
