3 huge reasons Louisville will make another dominant run in the ACC

3. Above-average shooting

As has been stated many times, Louisville’s greatest strength is its three-point shooting—but that strength can also be its Achilles’ heel. When a team lives and dies by the perimeter shot, wins and losses often hinge on whether the ball is falling. While that style can make Louisville one of the most dangerous teams in the country, it also means they are vulnerable on nights when shots don’t drop.

Great teams are typically balanced and able to win in multiple ways. They adapt based on what the game demands. Louisville’s offensive firepower gives them the ability to beat anyone in the country, but when their shooting is off, it also opens the door for losses to just about anyone. That volatility could lead to some frustrating nights over the course of a long season.

The good news is that most nights, Louisville shoots at or above its average—and that has fueled an 11–2 start to the season. Tuesday night was another example. As 7.5-point favorites, the Cards were expected to win, but they removed all doubt early. Louisville opened the game on a 10–0 run, built a lead as large as 26 points, and never allowed Cal to feel like it had a real chance.

Shooting 38% from three may not jump off the page, but when paired with an impressive 86% performance from the free-throw line, it was more than enough to open ACC play with a statement win. When Louisville shoots like it did on Tuesday night, the Cardinals are extremely difficult to beat.
