The transfer portal deadline officially closed last night, as the Cardinals discovered that their star power forward, Kasean Pryor, is set to return in the red and black uniform.
Louisville basketball's roster appears to be almost set, but with a couple of roster spots to fill, Kelsey is still reaching out to a few players who recently entered the transfer portal. According to 247Sports, Louisville has the fourth-highest odds of winning the 2026 National Championship and currently boasts the third-best transfer portal additions.
Kelsey and his staff don't have much more to do, but it was reported that the Cardinals reached out to a few players yesterday, and we are here to break down all three of them.
3 New transfer portal entries that the Louisville Cardinals have reached out to
3. Stephon Payne III
It was reported yesterday that the Cardinals have been in contact with Stephon Payne III, a guard transfer from the Jacksonville Dolphins. The 6-foot-9, 220-pound junior averaged 8.4 points and 6.3 rebounds while shooting 53.2 percent from the floor.
The lengthy guard has the ability to be a solid two-way guard. With his long frame, he averaged over a steal per game last season and earned 0.9 blocks per game. The Cardinals are reportedly in a battle for Payne, as Indiana, LSU, Oklahoma, Nevada, Charleston, and Virginia Tech have all reached out as well.
Last season for the Dolphins he started in 23 of the Dolphins 28 games, earning a season-high 20 point performance against Bellarmine. He scored double digits in 12 games last season, including five double-doubles.
Payne is a solid guard option to provide depth for Kelsey. His ability to play defense and grab rebounds is a key reason he can be a great addition to the Cardinals' final roster spot.
Since entering the transfer portal, Stephon Payne III has heard from the following schools he tells @TheAthleticCBB:
