3. Louisville won the penalty and turnover battle

Both Louisville and Miami have struggled with discipline this season, but on Friday night, the Cardinals flipped the script. Louisville committed just six penalties compared to nine by Miami, creating crucial advantages on both sides of the ball.

That total even includes a questionable “roughing the passer” call on Clev Lubin that wiped out what would’ve been another Beck interception. But as the saying goes, “ball don’t lie” — four plays later, Beck threw his third pick of the game anyway. By forcing Miami’s offense to become one-dimensional, Louisville made Beck throw a season-high 35 passes, which led to a career-high four interceptions. Coming in, he’d thrown only three all season.

Louisville’s lone turnover — an Isaac Brown fumble in the fourth quarter — led to Miami’s final touchdown and two-point conversion that made it 24–21. But Brohm’s defense held firm. For Brohm, the formula remains consistent: he’s now 4–0 at Louisville when winning both the turnover and penalty battles, and this was easily his most significant win under that stat line.
