This might not necessarily be a miss, as Jeff Brohm may have just turned to a different player, but the Cardinals were in contact with multiple quarterbacks, including a 4-star transfer and former 5-star recruit, DJ Lagway. The Cardinals lost three quarterbacks to the portal this offseason, and starting quarterback Miller Moss ran out of eligibility.

So, with Louisville in dire need of a quarterback, Brohm and the Cards were aiming big and contacted Lagway. The Florida transfer is ranked as high as No. 13 on the portal and as the No. 4 quarterback. Louisville was in an early recruiting battle for Lagway as the Cards faced Virginia, Missouri, and Baylor, but the former Gator committed to the Baylor Bears.

Louisville went on to land two quarterbacks in the portal, including future QB Lincoln Kienholz. The Cardinals earned Kienholz's commitment well before Lagway announced his, so whether Louisville went another route or Lagway’s price was too high, Brohm got his QB1 and surrounded Ohio State with a highly explosive offense.
