Pat Kelsey and his Cardinals perfected the transfer portal, and the No. 1 reason that proves it is their backcourt. Louisville earned commitments from three elite players, all of whom rank among the top 18 overall players to enter the transfer portal.
Louisville lost its top three scorers and had a glaring hole in the guard position, especially in 3-point shooting. At times, Louisville's shooting was extremely poor, making fans beg Kelsey to grab some elite shooters from the portal.
Well, ask, and you shall receive, because Kelsey landed three of the best 3-point shooters in the nation. Kelsey's master plan was executed to perfection as he will bring in a 5-star in Adrian Wooley, and two 4-stars, Ryan Conwell and Isaac McKneely.
All three transfers shot over 40 percent from beyond the arc and made more than 75 3-pointers last season. Louisville's backcourt will be led by the 5-star commit and future NBA lottery draft pick Mikel Brown Jr. The 6-foot-3 guard was the McDonald's All-American 3-point champion, and Kelsey teamed him up with three of the best shooters in the nation, who can all score at an elite level.
Wooley is a shifty guard who can drive to the rim or create space for a jump shot. Many experts predict that Brown and Wooley will start for the Cardinals, and Conwell will shift to the small forward. Louisville's backcourt will allow them to play a three-guard lineup, space the floor out, and shoot their opponents out of the gym.
That potential starting lineup would create an elite rotation off the bench, and McKneely would be set to dominate. Louisville will also have an excellent backup point guard in Kobe Rodgers to play with McKneely. The Charleston transfer missed last season from an injury in the 2023-24 season.
This backcourt will not only shoot their opponents out of the gym but also be nearly impossible to guard. The Cardinals' transfer portal additions created an unstoppable monster that will be a nightmare for the entire nation next season.
