The Louisville basketball team made a massive splash in the transfer portal yesterday. Adrian Wooley, the portal's No. 3 overall player, officially committed to Pat Kelsey and the Cardinals.
Wooley is a 5-star prospect and a unanimous top-five player in the portal. The Cardinal's glaring weakness from last season was their inability to shoot from beyond the arc. The Cardinals shot around 32 percent from downtown and was an extremely streaky team that lived and died from the 3-point line. Wooley is a crucial addition, as he shot 42 percent last season as a true freshman and splashed 73 shots from downtown.
The Cardinals are expected to keep pursuing the transfer portal, as they reportedly spent nearly $10 million this offseason.
5 Players that could follow Adrian Wooley to the Louisville Cardinals
Wooley is expected to be the first of many players to commit to the Cardinals this offseason. It seems unlikely that 5-star recruit Nate Ament will commit to the Cardinals, which means Louisville can go all-in on the transfer portal.
So, with Wooley being the first domino to fall their way, here are five players who might follow the sharpshooter to the Cardinals and commit to Pat Kelsey and Louisville basketball next.
5. Alex Steen
Alex Steen is an under-the-radar player in the transfer portal as the Florida Southern transfer will transition from DII basketball to DI basketball. Steen entered the transfer portal earlier this week, and the Cardinals quickly contacted their interest for the highly talented power forward.
A key area the Cardinals need to improve this offseason is their power forward position. After landing Wooley, their shooting guard spot is now less of a concern, and their need for an elite defensive forward becomes a glaring need. Steen was a two-time Defensive Player of the Year with Florida Southern. Last season, he had 86 blocks, including a season high of six blocks in one game.
Steen would be a perfect fit for the Cardinals as he is an elite two-way player providing great depth for Kelsey's roster. Last season he averaged 17.9 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while shooting 56.2 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from three.
