4. Isaac Brown (RB)

Sophomore running back Isaac Brown has already proven himself as one of Louisville’s most explosive weapons, but injuries in the backfield mean his role becomes even more critical this week. Against a Cavalier defense that has given up 131.4 rush yards a game, Brown and company need to bounce back after a subpar week against Pittsburgh last week. Brown has shown he can break a game open with long runs, but against Virginia the Cardinals may need him to be just as effective grinding out tough yards on early downs. A reliable rushing attack would take the pressure off Miller Moss and open up play-action opportunities for the passing game. It could also lead to an eating clock and keeping the Virginia offense on the bench.

Louisville’s running game depth has been tested all season, and that trend could continue if Brown isn’t 100 percent. Even if he isn’t at full strength, his ability to force Virginia’s defense to respect the run could dictate how the Cavaliers approach the game. If Brown can shoulder the load and consistently move the chains, it will go a long way toward keeping the Cardinals in control. Look for Brown to come back in a big way and break some game-changing runs to help Louisville’s offense down the second half.
