3. Caullin Lacy (WR)

Transfer wide receiver Caullin Lacy has emerged as one of Miller Moss’s top targets, and once again, he’ll be counted on to spark the offense. Lacy has been dynamic in space and dangerous after the catch, but Virginia’s defense will likely prioritize slowing him down with extra coverage. That means Lacy must continue to win his matchups and provide the kind of big plays that prevent defenses from stacking the box against the run. Coming off back-to-back games with eight catches and over 95 yards, look for Caullin to continue to be a downfield threat.

His role goes beyond just producing catches — Lacy’s also the return man who has landed Louisville in the top 10 in FBS for almost every punt return category as well. In a game where both offenses will probably score more often than not, a punt return or field position could be huge.  Averaging 24 yards per return on kickoffs and 29.6 yards per return on punts, including two for touchdowns, Lacy impacts the game in two of the three phases. Either on offense or special teams, if he forces Virginia to commit more resources his way, it will free up opportunities for other receivers and the tight ends to get involved. Saturday gives him a chance to show that he’s more than just a volume receiver, but a player who alters the entire offensive game plan for opponents.
