The transfer portal has been busy this week, with players from all over the country entering their names. The portal officially opened on March 24 and will remain open until April 22.
Louisville basketball lost some valuable pieces this offseason as the Cardinals will look to replace Chucky Hepburn, Reyne Smith, and Terrence Edwards Jr., who not only contributed to over half of their points on a nightly basis but also were Pat Kelsey's top three 3-point shooters.
Louisville has shown they want to improve their shooting from beyond the arc. Last season, they shot the ball around 30 percent, and it ended up being their glaring weakness.
5 players Louisville basketball must land in transfer portal to fix shooting struggles
The Cardinals have a gaping hole in the shooting guard position right now, and Kelsey seems set on landing a massive player from the portal. Smith will be hard to replace, but the Cardinals have already reached out and are even frontrunners for some of the best shooting guards in this year's transfer portal.
The Cardinals took a historic step forward last season, reaching 27 wins and their first ACC Tournament championship game. However, the Cardinals haven't won a March Madness game in over eight years, and the Cardinal faithful are patiently waiting.
Louisville must address its shooting concerns from last season if it wants to snap this curse. So, Kelsey will be strategic about who he recruits, and the player he gets will make an immediate impact.
Here are five players Louisville basketball must land in the transfer portal to fix their shooting struggles.
5. Kam Williams
Louisville basketball reached out to the Tulane transfer early this week. Kam Williams would be a great addition to the Pat Kelsey team, as the shooting guard shot 41.2 percent from beyond the arc last season.
The 6-foot-8 freshman has tremendous upside and one of the brightest futures in the portal. So, while he may not bring the most experience to the team, he will bring much-needed shooting. He proved his ability to stroke it from beyond the arc last year, averaging nearly two made threes per game.
He made 63 threes last year and was a valuable piece on Tulane's starting lineup. He averaged 9.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 1.4 steals while shooting 48.5 percent from the floor and around 41 percent from downtown.
This young recruit is talented because he can be a lethal shooter while being a reliable defender on the other side of the court. Kelsey reached out to Williams earlier this week, and the Cardinals should be thrilled. This lengthy shooting guard from Tulane will be a top prospect in the transfer portal, and the Louisville Cardinals will do all they can to land Williams.
