5. Tao Johnson | S | Utah
With Louisville losing key players in its secondary, Tao Johnson emerges as an absolute long shot. The Cardinals were reportedly among the many teams in contact with Kansas transfer Lyrik Rawls, but they missed out on him as he committed to Arizona State. Now, heading back to the drawing board, Louisville will look to add a player like Johnson to this Cardinals' defense.
After spending his first three seasons with Utah, the former Ute commit logged a combined 154 tackles, 13 pass deflections, three interceptions, and one forced fumble. He went on to have his breakout season in his sophomore year, earning a career-high 70 tackles and one forced fumble. He also added four pass breakups and one interception.
Last year he logged 51 tackles, four pass deflections, and two interceptions. The Cardinals need some help in the safety position after losing Jabari Mack and D'Angelo Hutchinson, and Johnson would be a dream replacement. The Utah transfer ranks as high as No. 248 in the portal and the No. 16-ranked safety.
