Louisville risks losing a significant portion of its defensive line production this offseason, making A.J. Green a must-retain player. The 6-foot-6, 250-pound sophomore from Atlanta has taken real strides in year three, posting three sacks and a forced fumble so far.

His biggest moment came in Week 3 against James Madison when he scooped up a fumble for a touchdown, a play that flipped momentum in a tight game. The sophomore is third on the team in total sacks with three, and has had a massive role on this dominant defensive line all season long.

Green represents exactly what Louisville needs moving forward: a developed, ascending player who can take on a larger role in 2026. As Ron English’s defense faces major turnover, keeping Green provides stability at a position with big question marks. He’s a building block, and Louisville cannot afford to let him explore opportunities elsewhere.
