Louisville basketball had one of the biggest off-seasons in college basketball. Pat Kelsey was one of the top spenders in the transfer portal and secured six transfer commitments, including the No. 1 overall transfer, Flory Bidunga.

The Cardinals secured the top portal class in the nation, and despite Louisville’s season not going how many had hoped this past season, the Cardinals are expected to be one of the top teams in the nation. The Cardinals' fans are absolutely starving for a Final Four run, and as of right now, Louisville has the sixth-highest odds to win the National Title in 2027, according to FanDuel.

The season is quickly approaching, and Louisville basketball and college basketball fans are counting down the days. CBS Sports' Isaac Trotter recently broke down some of the top storylines leading up to the season, and when he brought up Louisville, he sent a fiery seven-word message to Kelsey and the Cardinals.

CBS Sports has a clear message for Pat Kelsey and Louisville

Louisville hasn’t reached the Final Four since 2013, when they won the National Title, and the Cardinals fans are hoping this could be the year. Trotter brought up the Cardinals in his recent article, “100 And 1 days until college basketball: Stars, storylines, contenders and pretenders for 2026-27 season”, and what stood out was his powerful seven-word message to Louisville.

“It's time to win. Simple as that.”

The college basketball insider broke down how Louisville was a major spender this offseason, and because of that, Kelsey has to get Louisville over the hump. The Cards have been a consistent high spender in the portal the past two offseasons, and while Mikel Brown Jr.’s injury was a major reason Louisville’s 2026 postseason was shorter than many hoped, the Cardinals just put together another expensive roster, and it is time to win.

"Louisville has poured so much money into roster-building lately. An injury to Mikel Brown Jr. understandably kept Louisville from reaching its full potential last year. No bother. There's money a-flowin' in Bourbon City. Louisville, once again, was one of the top spenders in the portal. Louisville paid up for Kansas' Flory Bidunga and Oregon's Jackson Shelstad. It won a bidding war for Iowa transfer forward Alvaro Folgueiras. This roster looks to be in the $20 million range.

The days of spending top dollar and getting 30-pieced by Duke just have to be over. "

Last year Louisville couldn’t beat the notable opponents, finishing 1-8 against the top 25 and 0-6 against KenPom’s top 20. Trotter makes it clear those days have to be over with the amount of money Louisville is spending. And he is right.

The Cardinals fans deserve a Final Four run, and Kelsey knows that.

"Losing at this round in this game is not the standard, and we understand that,” Kelsey stated after the loss to Michigan State.

So, the time is now. Louisville has the roster; they spent the money, and now Kelsey has to take them to the promised land.
