Louisville football is now down to just two quarterbacks after Deuce Adams, a former 3-star commit and redshirt freshman, entered the transfer portal. Though rumors hinted at his possible departure, losing Adams is a significant loss for the QB position for the Cards.
With only Mason Mims and Briggs Cherry remaining, Louisville is now forced to look around for a quarterback. Brady Allen left earlier this month, and Adams’s departure makes the Louisville depth chart incredibly thin at this crucial position.
With Adams leaving, it is clear the team needs to add a new quarterback via the transfer portal. And while the fans were hesitant at first, they are now realizing this just opened the door for Brohm to land a superstar QB.
Louisville football set to hit the portal for their next QB
After the 2025 season concluded, many fans made it clear they wanted to give Adams a chance next season. Some fans want to develop a quarterback and have their QB for more than just one season, and they thought Adams might be the guy. However, with Adams leaving for the portal, it is official that Brohm is attacking the portal for his fourth straight season.
Louisville’s starting quarterback has come from the portal in all four seasons under Brohm, starting in 2023 with Jack Plummer, 2024 with Tyler Shough, 2025 with Miller Moss, and now 2026. Adams' departure is sad, but the fans are all-in on the portal QBs now. Louisville has already been linked to some of the top transfer quarterbacks, like DJ Lagway and Dylan Raiola, and recently rumors have surfaced about Josh Hoover.
This afternoon, Louisville fans might be upset that Adams left, but they are also excited as they buy into the portal options. Many fans are loving the idea of going all-in and grabbing an elite quarterback who can elevate this program, and with Adams leaving, it has just allowed Brohm to give his full attention to Raiola, Lagway, and Hoover.
It won't be an easy grab for Louisville and Brohm to get Raiola, Lagway, or Hoover, but Adams' departure confirms that Brohm wants a transfer QB next season, a transfer that Adams wouldn't be able to compete with to earn the starting job. So, with the portal quickly approaching, it certainly feels like Louisville might get a star this offseason, and they will find out shortly.
The Transfer Portal opens up on Jan.2 and will remain open until Jan. 16. For all the latest recruiting news and updates for Louisville football, stay tuned.
