Louisville football is just days away from its showdown with Eastern Kentucky on August 30 at L&N Stadium. The Cardinals enter the season with their highest expectations in a long time, as Louisville has won nine consecutive seasons for the first time since 2003.
The Cardinals now not only look to make it three straight seasons, but they have their sights set on the College Football Playoffs and the ACC Championship game. But, before the fans jump to November, it all starts Week 1 against the Colonels.
Head coach Walt Wells was on a local ESPN radio show, and the Eastern Kentucky coach had much to praise for the Cardinals' squad, but made it clear that Louisville is especially dominant in one specific area.

Walt Wells names Louisville's RB room best in nation
Wells took over the head coaching job for Eastern Kentucky back in 2019 and has a total record of 30-26 through the years. He now faces a tall challenge to go up against the Louisville Cardinals in Week 1, and entering the game, there is one area that he is just losing sleep over, and he made it clear in the interview.
"I think it is probably one of the better teams they have had in years," Wells stated. "Those two backs who I already mentioned, Brown and Watson, are superior. I mean, they are probably the best tandem in the country."
Wells is not wrong here. The Cardinals ' two-star running backs combined for 1,770 rushing yards on 7.6 yards per carry, which led the nation. Louisville's rushing attack looks to start hot like it did last year, when they ran for nearly 300 rushing yards on 10.5 yards per carry in a dominant 62-0 victory over Austin Peay.
Wells and his Colonels will have a big challenge on Saturday trying to slow this offense down, but especially this rushing attack. Austin Peay played Eastern Kentucky close last season, but the Colonels won 30-27 in overtime. This indicates the Cardinals' two running backs should dominate as they did last season.
