The 2025 college football season has been completely and utterly crazy. There are eight jobs open after LSU recently fired Brian Kelly, making the Tigers' job one of the top openings in the league.

The LSU job opening will now be the top coaching job available, with Florida, Penn State, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, and Virginia Tech also seeking new head coaches. Louisville football fans have been frustrated to hear head coach Jeff Brohm's name linked to LSU and Penn State recently, but another ACC head coach has emerged as a top candidate for the LSU job.

Louisville fans hate every second of hearing Brohm's name, as the majority of them are laughing it off, but some are a bit worried. Now, as the season hits the back half of the regular season, this ACC coach is in a similar boat to Brohm, as he sits with an impressive resume and is now linked as a top target for the Tigers.

Georgia Tech's Brent Key named top target for LSU job opening

Brent Key took Georgia Tech from being at the bottom of the ACC to now the frontrunner to win the conference in 2025. Key has this Yellow Jackets team on pace to make its first-ever College Football Playoffs, as they sit 8-0 With four more games on its schedule, all of which favor the Yellow Jackets.

As Louisville fans know well, with the success that comes with it, Key is now being linked as a top target for the LSU job, according to a recent ESPN article.

"He's a Georgia Tech guy and has his alma mater positioned for a run at the ACC title and the program's first CFP appearance. Key wouldn't leave for just any job, but he would have to consider LSU. He's no stranger to the program after coaching Alabama's offensive line from 2016 to 2018 under Saban and participating in the annual LSU showdown. Key, 47, grew up in Alabama and has spent his entire career in the Southeast, including more than a decade at UCF in various roles. Key is 26-16 at Georgia Tech as a first-time head coach and has thrived in big games with a 7-1 record against ranked ACC opponents. He would bring a clear recruiting vision and an approach based around the line of scrimmage to LSU."

Key has emerged as one of the rising coaches in college football this season and has taken the Georgia Tech program to the highest level in a long time. It is no surprise to see his name linked as a target, but like Brohm, it is hard to imagine him leaving a program that he has built as a CFP contender.
