Everyone around social media agrees that the NCAA Tournament Committee clearly screwed Lousiville basketball. The Cardinals broke multiple program records, reached the ACC Tournament Finals, had one of the best records in the nation, and are ranked No. 10 by the AP Polls, but it apparently wasn't good enough in the committee's eyes.
According to Basketball Matrix, the Cardinals seem to be locked in for a 5-seed or a 6-seed. The analytic website analyzed the opinions of 180 experts, and just two of them predicted Lousiville to be an 8-seed.
Social media exploded over the Cardinals' NCAA Tournament draw, and North Carolina star players RJ Davis and Seth Trimble agreed with Louisville faithful that the Cardinals' path is "disrespectful."
North Carolina stars know Louisville's No. 8 seed for March Madness is a joke
North Carolina held a press conference for its matchup against San Diego State, and the two stars were asked about their opinions on Louisville's seed. RJ Davis and Seth Trimble were available to media for questions, and via the Tar Heel Tribune, both guards seem to think the Louisville basketball seeding was "disrespectful" not only to Louisville but also to the ACC.
"Louisville had a really good year and I feel like an 8 seed was kind of disrespectful to them." RJ Davis stated.
The Cardinals defeated North Carolina 83-70 early into ACC play and have an impressive 18-2 ACC record. The Cardinals are ranked No. 23 in NET rating and have a better resume than some may think, and North Carolina's star guard Seth Trimble agrees.
"I think it was just a little bit disrespectful. Louisville had a great year. They had a really good tournament run in the ACC Tournament. That’s all I really saw it as. I wasn’t worried about it for us." Seth Trimble stated.
The Cardinals went 2-1 in the ACC Tournament, including a win over a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the Clemson Tigers. Lousiville defeated the Tigers twice this season, has a better record and a better strength of record, but still falls three seeds behind the Tigers. Make that make sense.
The Cardinals are the first seed to ever be ranked in the top 10 of the AP polls entering the NCAA Tournament, but to fall to an 8-seed. The Cardinals received blatant disrespect from the committee, and maybe it was disrespect to the ACC. That is what Trimble thinks.
"I just took it as a sign of disrespect to our conference, honestly. I know we’ve had somewhat of a down year this year in the ACC, but I feel like every single year once it comes to March, the ACC does a great job." UNC star guard stated in the press conference.
Louisville basketball's 8-seed doesn't make much sense, and the whole nation agrees. The Cardinals faithfully continue to erupt on all social media, including Pat Kelsey. The Cardinals head coach admitted they feel "slighted" and hopes this "lights a fire in their stomach."
The Louisville Cardinals will play the Creighton Bluejays on Thursday, March 20th, at 12:15 p.m. local time.
