Former Louisville football player goes viral at his new school after he hangs back after practice to help a freshman out and teach him some veteran moves. Graduate student Mason Reiger, who played his first four seasons with the Cardinals, transferred to Wisconsin this offseason after being redshirted in 2024.
Reiger is making an immediate impact with his new program as he is giving Wisconsin football exactly what it needs. The Badgers are in need of a culture change, and the graduate senior hanging back after practice to teach a young freshman how to improve is exactly what the fans love to see.

Mason Reiger has wholesome moment after practice with true freshman
The former Louisville Cardinal logged a total of 49 tackles in his three playing seasons with Louisville, as well as eight sacks, three pass deflections, and one forced fumble. The outside linebacker for the Baders was once an edge rusher for the Cardinals, and back in 2023, he had a massive impact for Louisville, and he is quickly having a similar effect for Wisconsin.
The 6-foot-4, 250-pound edge rusher had a wholesome moment that went viral in a recent practice, and Wisconsin and Louisville fans are smiling from ear to ear when they watch Reiger helping out the true freshman, Mason Posa.
While talking with DC Mike Tressel today, we could see OLB Mason Reiger working on pass rushing moves with FR LB Mason Posa. Came about 25 mins after practice.

Notable to see an older guy that will spend just a year here taking some ownership for what he’s going to leave behind pic.twitter.com/me8gB7x5sL
Reiger knows a thing or two about pass rushing, as during his time with Louisville, he finished second in sacks in 2023 and logged 16.5 tackles for a loss.
Reiger is projected to be one of the Badgers' starting linebackers this upcoming season, and it brings joy to Louisville fans to see that he is already making an impact on and off the field. This type of leadership is something Louisville will miss from Reiger this upcoming season, but the fifth-year appears to be taking on that leadership role quickly with his new team.
