Jeff Brohm has been without one of the leaders of his defense since Louisville’s Week 2 win over James Madison, and it looks like he may have to wait another week to get him back. Stanquan Clark left that game in the fourth quarter with a leg injury and has not returned to the field since.

Clark was initially listed as questionable for the Cardinals’ Week 11 bout with Cal, but has been ruled out in an updated injury report. With his return to the practice field and his continued improvement, there was growing optimism that he’d make his return to game action on Saturday at L&N Stadium.

With Clark out, TJ Quinn, Kalib Perry, and T.J. Capers have combined to fill the void at off-ball linebacker. Quinn leads the team in tackles for the second straight season, recording 59, six more than defensive back D’Angelo Hutichinson.

Last season, Clark recorded the second-most tackles on the Louisville defense with 76. He also added a half sack, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. He’ll be a major addition when he can return for the stretch run. Louisville is still firmly in the mix for the ACC Championship Game and the College Football Playoff, giving Clark even more time to get back to 100%.

Pete Nakos of On3 has reported that Louisville has confidence that Clark will suit up again this season. He could he eyeing a return next week when the Cardinals host Clemson, or in Week 13 at SMU. Consider there was a chance that he played this week, he’ll likely be back next Saturday.

After being initially listed as questionable for Week 11 vs. Cal, veteran linebacker Stanquan Clark is OUT and will miss the game. It is the sixth consecutive game that Clark has missed after suffering a leg injury in the fourth quarter against James Madison on September 5.
