Louisville football is just a couple of weekends away, and Isaac Brown is ready to go. The Cardinals' star running back returned to Louisville after an impressive year that was cut short by injuries, but he was still very effective.

Over the offseason, the Cardinals avoided a nightmare scenario of losing Brown, as the elite running back announced he was planning to enter the Transfer Portal, but Vince Marrow and Jeff Brohm pulled out all the tricks in the book and found a way for Brown not to enter the portal. Now, Brown will play his third season with the Cardinals, and Louisville fans have high expectations for the star tailback.

Not only do fans have high expectations for Brown, but he has high expectations for himself. Brown made it clear: he doesn’t just think he is one of the best RBs in college football; he is the best running back in college football.

Louisville star makes his confidence clear ahead of 2026 season

Brown has made multiple preseason All-American lists, along with the Maxwell Award Watch List. The Cardinals' star running back has the potential to be one of the top backs in college football, and he made it clear he thinks he is the best.

“Yeah, I feel like I’m the best back,” stated Brown. “I just feel like I am different from all the other running backs in college football. I don’t feel like running backs got what I got.”

Brown certainly is in the conversation for the best running back. The junior is coming off a year when he rushed the ball only 101 times in eight games, but he was nothing but dominant. He led the league in yards per carry with at least 50 carries, as he averaged 8.8 yards per carry and rushed for 884 yards and seven touchdowns.

Brown is known for his breakaway speed and his explosiveness, as he often finds the hole and doesn’t stop until he is in the end zone. Last year, Brown rushed for 100 yards or more in six of the eight games, including the Cardinals' win over No. 2 Miami and their win over Boston College, when he rushed 14 times for 205 yards, averaging 14.6 yards per carry.

The year before, he rushed for 1,173 yards on 7.1 yards per carry, and won the ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Rookie of the Year. He broke the program's record for most rushing yards from a true freshman and rushed for at least 100 yards in five games, tying Lamar Jackson’s true freshman record. One of those five games was against Kentucky, when Brown earned 26 carries for a dominant 178 yards and two touchdowns.

Everyone knows he can be the best running back in college football; he just has to stay on the field for an entire season in 2026. Brown is poised to be one of the biggest pieces of this new Brohm offense, and with Louisville eyeing their first CFP berth, the Cardinals need another special season from their star running back.
