The Louisville football team lost quite a few assistant coaches this offseason, including Richard Owens, who left the Cardinals to take over the tight ends coach position at Alabama. After Owens departed Louisville for the Crimson Tide, Louisville and Jeff Brohm were left scrambling to find a new offensive line coach.

Well, the Cardinals and Brohm are trending with a familiar face, as Louisville is expected to hire Dale Williams as its next offensive line coach to replace Owens.

The new offensive line coach comes from multiple sources, and just eight days after Owens left the Cardinals for Alabama. Many Cardinals fans are already expressing support for this hire, as Brohm and Williams have a long history.

Dale Williams resume explains Jeff Brohm and Louisville's confidence

When Louisville fans look at Williams resume, they will quickly be happy with the hire. Brohm went to an old friend and familiar face, as Williams was Brohm's offensive line coach at Western Kentucky and Purdue, and was part of UofL's staff in 2023. The two coaches coached together for seven seasons before Williams left Brohm and the Cardinals for Syracuse, where he spent the last two seasons.

Now, after serving as the Orange Offensive Line coach, Williams returns to Brohm and Louisville to replace Owens. In his first year with Syracuse, he coached his offensive line, which helped Kyle McCord set a new ACC passing record and LeQuint Allen Jr. rush for 1,021 rushing yards.

Before his time at Syracuse and Louisville, he is most known for his time at Purdue with Brohm. The two coaches helped the Boilermakers have one of their best runs in recent history as Brohm and Williams led Purdue to win its first Big Ten West title. In 2021, Williams and Brohm broke multiple records as they set a new program record for passing yards, completions, completion percentage, and passing first downs in a single season. Williams' offensive line had three players earn All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors that year.

With Williams added to the staff, Brohm has quickly managed to replace Owens with someone who has already proved can lead an offensive line to be one of the best in the nation. This hire should have Louisville fans excited for the season and for the offensive line, as the Cardinals added elite linemen this offseason via the Transfer Portal in Eryx Daugherty and Cason Henry.
