Louisville basketball fans continue to learn more and more about the Cardinals' 2026-27 schedule, as fans learned two more opponents in Louisville’s nonconference schedule. Right now, Louisville is trending as a likely top-15 team in the preseason rankings, as the Cards are ranked as high as No. 5 in Fox Sports' way-too-early rankings and were recently ranked No. 15 in the On3 Sports rankings.
Louisville's lineup even without Milan Momcilovic should still have fans dreaming big
So, with Louisville back at the top in these preseason rankings, the nonconference schedule gets a lot of attention from the fans. Last year, Louisville didn’t want to duck any smoke and played Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Indiana, and Memphis as notable nonconference opponents. And this year, while Louisville has some elite programs again, like Kentucky and Texas, Kelsey just added some much-needed games to build confidence and chemistry in the early stages of the season.
According to the Courier-Journal's Brooks Holton, Louisville just added Chattanooga and Morehead State to their nonconference schedule, meaning Louisville fans now know of 10 of the Cards' nonconference opponents.
Louisville basketball adds Chattanooga and Morehead State to schedule
It is reported that Louisville and Chattanooga will play on Nov. 2 at the KFC Yum! Center, and then will host Morehead State shortly after as well on Nov. 7 inside the Yum! Center, according to Holton. It is worth noting that the broadcast station and tip-off time have not yet been announced.
This past season, Chattanooga went just 13-19 after their dominant 29-9 season two seasons ago. Two seasons ago, in that historic year for the Mocs, they made the NIT and secured their program’s first NIT Invitational Tournament Title after defeating UC Irvine in the championship.
As for Morehead State, the Eagles were regular-season co-champions in OVC after finishing 20-13 on the year and 15-5 in conference play. The Eagles' head coach, Jonathan Mattox, went on to earn the Co-OVC Coach of the Year award, which he shared with Tennessee State's head coach.
Louisville’s nonconference schedule is set to be an exciting one for a second straight season. The Cardinals now know 10 opponents, including a home game against Texas on Dec. 1 in the ACC/SEC Challenge and an away game against Kentucky on Dec. 12.
Louisville basketball is also scheduled to participate in the Players Era Championship, and the Cardinals will play at least three games, starting with the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Other notable known nonconference opponents for Louisville include Memphis and Baylor.
