Postseason baseball is underway, folks. Louisville baseball regular season wrapped up this week, as they look to put the regular season behind them and ramp it up for the postseason. Louisville finished with a .500 record, going 15-15 in ACC play and 35-20 overall. Their regular-season performance earned them the No. 10 seed going into the postseason.
Louisville baseball faced some struggles at the end of the season, losing five out of their last six games. However, the one win was the last game of the season, so they have a little momentum heading into the ACC tournament.
Pittsburgh Panthers faced their end-of-season woes. They went on their streak, losing four out of their last five. With that said, Pitt faced regular-season woes in general. They went 10-20 in ACC play and 27-26 overall.
Game Time
The Cardinals and Panthers will face off on Tuesday, May 20, at 5 p.m. local time on the ACC Network from Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C.
Series History
Louisville and Pitt have not played each other this season. This game will be a first in this season and a fresh new matchup. These two teams have not seen each other since the 2022 season, where Pitt won three out of four matchups that season. The Cardinals lead the overall series history with 21 wins and 11 losses.
What to know
Louisville baseball has to be careful, as they are not in the clear yet. The Cardinals have not clinched a spot in the NCAA Tournament as of right now. With the way they ended the season, a loss to Pitt could have them on the outside looking in. They will need to show out in Durham if they want to go dancing.
Louisville has never won the ACC Tournament, and has not won a conference tournament since winning the Big East back to back in 2008 and 2009. The Cardinals will have to pull off six wins in a row if they want to capture their first ACC trophy. Louisville baseball will have to take it one game at a time. A few wins in Durham should have them a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Prediction
Home run leader for Louisville baseball, Freshman Tague Davis, will look to go back-to-back games hitting a home run. Davis has hit a home run in two out of his last four games. Standout Sophomore Zion Rose will not only play a big part against Pitt, but as a whole in Durham. Rose had an exceptional Freshman season, earning an All-American honor and leading all Power Five true freshmen in batting average. In his one ACC tournament game last season, Rose went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Expect him to continue this momentum and lead the Cardinals past the Panthers. Louisville baseball will fly past Pitt and move on to the next round.
What's next
If Louisville baseball can get past Pitt, then they will face off against the Duke Blue Devils. That game would take place on Wednesday, May 21, at 5 p.m. local time.
