Louisville basketball is rebuilding its roster, and while Pat Kelsey has already added seven players, he still needs a few extra role players. One piece Louisville is in conversation with is actually not from the Transfer Portal but from the 2026 recruiting class.
Recently, the Cardinals landed their first 2026 recruit, Obinna Ekezie Jr., as the 5-star center ranks No.1 4 overall and No. 1 among centers. Now, Kelsey will look to add his second 2026 recruit as Boyuan Zhang ia reportedly on campus for a visit with Louisville.

His range extends well beyond the three point line, which opens up driving lanes for his teammates. He also has the ability to put the ball on the floor and attack pic.twitter.com/04abZt6pMK

4-star wing Boyuan Zhang on official visit with Louisville basketball
Zhang is a 4-star 2026 recruit, as his rankings have skyrocketed this year. He is a native of China but currently lives in Garden Grove, Calif.,where he plays for Veritas Prep as a 6-foot-7, 220-pound small forward.
Louisville is hosting him for an official visit this weekend and is in a recruiting battle with Oregon, Illinois, Minnesota, and California for the 4-star wing. After this weekend's official visit to Louisville, the 4-star wing has now taken a visit to all five programs.
The 4-star has 9 total offers and ranks as high as No. 57 in the 2026 cycle, No. 20 among small forwards, and No. 7 among California natives. Leading up to Louisville’s visit, it is a tight race for the 4-star wing, as Cal has the lead with a 25.2 percent chance of earning Zhang’s commitment, followed by a 22 percent chance from Illinois, an 18.9 percent chance from Minnesota, and a 15.7 percent chance from Louisville.
The 6-foot-7 wing played for China at the FIBA U19 World Cup last summer, where he averaged 14.7 points and 5.1 rebounds a game. He then followed that impressive showing with a dominant season with Veritas Prep, averaging 20.2 points per game, ranking No. 2 in the Nike EYBL Scholastic League.
The 4-star would be a huge pick up to bring off the bench and to add depth to the Cardinals bench. Louisville needs some pure scorers, and Zhang would be exactly what Kelsey needs.
