Louisville basketball fans have seen four Cardinals enter the Transfer Portal so far this offseason, and Khani Rooths is the first to commit to another program. Cardinals fans were hoping Pat Kelsey could channel his inner Jeff Brohm and try to recruit from within to bring Rooths back, but the former 4-star just committed to the Oklahoma Sooners.
Louisville basketball fans crushed after losing 4-star fan favorite to Transfer Portal
Rooths is the Cardinals' biggest loss so far this offseason to the Transfer Portal, as the 4-star transfer and Louisville’s former 4-star commitment was a fan favorite but also a huge spark off the bench. Cardinals fans loved the energy and physicality Rooths brought, and many hoped he would be Kelsey’s starting small forward next season, but the 4-star will be heading to Norman and the SEC.

Khani Rooths commits to Oklahoma
Rooths is a former 4-star recruit from the 2024 recruiting class. He ranked as high as No. 33 in the recruiting class, and when fans look at his numbers, they won’t tell the whole story. Rooths averaged 3.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in his freshman season with the Cardinals, but consistently was one of Louisville’s glaring X-factors in their historic season as he helped Louisville back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019.
Then, this past season, the former 4-star was a key bench player, averaging 5.3 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 45 percent from the field and 22.4 percent from beyond the arc. Rooths is an elite slasher who can play small forward or power forward at 6-foot-10, 215 pounds.
Rooths commits to Oklahoma, ranked as a 4-star transfer and No. 103 overall and No. 23 among power forwards. He is the first Cardinal to commit to another program, as Sanada Fru, Vangelis Zougris, and Mouhamed Camara also entered the portal.
Rooths showed his potential this past season in flashes, including his back-to-back double-double performances in early 2026.
