Pat Kelsey and the Cardinals are trying to fix one of their glaring weaknesses from last season in this transfer portal. Louisville basketball is in a battle for many of the top prospects early in the transfer portal, as the Cardinals have already reached out to multiple lethal shooters and forwards.
The Cardinals' 3-point shooting and depth were a glaring weakness, and the fans were happy to see the early players Kelsey has reached out to some are elite shooters or players who can score at an elite level. Louisville will look to try to land a massive player in the portal as fans are screaming to try and get Isaac McKneely or Josh Dix.
However, a valuable player from a MAAC team recently entered the transfer portal, and the Cardinals apparently have already reached out to him, and he would be a perfect role player for Louisville.
Louisville basketball must get this elite forward in the transfer portal
One area Louisville needs to address its forward position. James Scott and Khani Rooths showed a lot of potential last year, but the Cardinals need a forward who can score at an elite level. If the Cardinals can land a forward who can give them a solid 14 points a game and be a threat from outside the paint, he would fit perfectly.
Well, Kelsey may have found their guy. Amarri Monroe recently put his name in the transfer portal, and the Cardinals have already reached out to the 2024-25 MAAC Player of the Year. Monroe secured All-MAAC First TeamĀ last season along with his Player of the Year award, as the New York nativeĀ averaged 18.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 2.3 assists, and 0.8 blocks while shooting 40.5 percent from the floor.
Monroe will transfer out of Quinnipiac after playing there for two seasons. Last year at Quinnipiac, he started every game but one and was an unstoppable force for the Bobcats. The 6-foot-7, 220-pound dominant forward scored 20 points or more in 17 games last season, including his career-high of 29 points.
The Quinnipiac transfer put up insane numbers the whole season, as he had a stretch of scoring 20 points in nine of 10 games. He secured a double-double in 15 games last season. His best stretch of the season came when he secured a double-double in seven of eight games, including an insane 24 points, 19 rebounds, and three steals game against Sacred Heart.
Monroe also is a dominant force on the defensive side as he broke Quinnipiac's record for most steals in a single season in both years at the university. In his first season he secured 62 steals and then he would go on to break his own record this past year with an impressive 72 total steals.
If Kelsey could land Monroe, the Cardinals defense would be a force to be reckoned with. J'Vonne Hadley, Monroe, and James Scott as the potential starting frontcourt is not only an elite defensive lineup, but would cause damage on the offensive side too.
So, this is a name for Louisville basketball fans to keep an eye on. This absolute star of a player from Quinnipiac is a glaring target for Pat Kelsey, and the Cardinals fans should want him playing at KFC Yum! Center next year.
