Louisville basketball just learned 5-star Obinna Ekezie Jr. will announce his college decision Sunday, May 3, at 4:30 p.m. ET on his Instagram. With this decision just hours away, the Cardinals fans can’t help but dream big.

There have been reports that Maryland has been making a strong push recently, as his father played basketball at Maryland. However, just moments ago, On3 Sports updated its prediction on where the Florida native will go, and Louisville got a massive update.

Louisville basketball gets massive update hours before Obinna Ekezie Jr.'s decision

Earlier this morning, when Ekezie announced he would commit this afternoon, On3 Sports had Louisville as the best chance to earn his commitment at 38.7 percent, and Arkansas was close behind at 33.8 percent. However, that changed drastically just hours before his decision, as On3 Sports now gives Louisville a dominant 92.6 percent chance of earning his commitment, making them the clear frontrunner and favorite.

The 5-star center ranks as high as No. 2 overall in the 2027 cycle and No. 1 among centers. The 7-foot, 215-pound center is a dominant rim protector on defense thanks to his long arms and can impact the game offensively, as he is crazy athletic and finishes at the rim with impressive dunks. He has a 7-foot-4 wingspan and averaged over two blocks per game with Southeastern Prep.

If Louisville does earn his commitment and he does reclass to the 2026 class, the Cardinals' frontcourt would be its best in a long time, led by the No. 1 transfer in the portal, Flory Bidunga, and the No. 2 recruit from the 2027 class in Ekezie.

Kelsey has dominated this offseason so far, and it appears Louisville is now the clear frontrunner for the consensus 5-star. 247Sports gave Louisville a Crystal Ball prediction, and now On3 Sports gives the Cardinals a near 93 percent chance of earning his commitment, with Arkansas the next closest team at 4.1 percent.
