Louisville basketball hasn’t had much luck in the 2026 class, but the Cardinals are already making moves with the 2027 class. They have landed more high school recruits for 2027 than for 2026, after securing a commitment from Louisville native Ferlandes Wright.
The Cardinals now aim to add to that class, as they will host an official visit this weekend from 4-star point guard Reese Alston. The Cards are the first team to earn an official visit from the 4-star guard, and with him ranked as a unanimous top 50 prospect in the 2027 recruiting class, it is a huge step for Louisville.

Louisville receives huge news from elite 4-star PG.
Alston is highly recruited in the 2027 class, having already earned over 25 offers from elite programs such as Kentucky, Houston, and Purdue. When many fans think of elite backcourts and ‘PGU’, they often turn to Houston, Purdue, Kentucky, and now Louisville after Kelsey has arrived. Kelsey has quickly skyrocketed this program into the ‘PGU’ conversations after he landed 5-star Mikel Brown Jr. and brought in Ryan Conwell, Adrian Wooley, and Isaac McKneely.
The Cardinals' backcourt has been one of the best in the nation this year, and is sending a message to future recruits on why they should play for Kelsey and the Cardinals. Alston would be a big-time get for Kelsey and would keep him in that ‘PGU’ conversation as the 4-star PG ranks as high as No. 21 in the nation and the No. Four point guards in the class.
Last season, the elite point guard averaged 21.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 2.4 steals as a sophomore for Second Baptist High School. And now this season, he has even stepped it up, averaging an impressive 23.0 points, 5.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.1 steals per game.
It will be an uphill battle for Kelsey and the Cardinals to beat out Houston, since he is from Texas. On3 Sports gives Houston a 14.3 percent chance of earning his commitment, followed by Sam Houston State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and SMU, suggesting he might want to stay home and play in-state.
That said, Kelsey and the Cards earning the 4-star's first official visit is a big boost for this recruiting process and will set the tone for his future visits. He will visit Louisville this weekend, and hopefully, after this visit, the Cardinals skyrocket up his list and are on his radar.
