Louisville basketball’s schedule is beginning to fill up, as Cardinals fans just learned about one more non-conference opponent. In late May, Louisville fans learned the Cardinals' ACC opponents and where they will play each ACC game, including Duke at home and SMU and UNC twice.

Louisville's lineup even without Milan Momcilovic should still have fans dreaming big

Now, Louisville fans learned earlier this morning that a massive non-conference opponent will take on the Cardinals at home, inside the KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinals learned who their 2026 ACC/SEC Challenge opponent is this season, and, like last year, Pat Kelsey is looking to not duck any smoke as the Cards face off against the Texas Longhorns on Dec. 1.

Louisville basketball gets chance to make early statement against Texas

The Cardinals have now learned about eight non-conference opponents, and Texas marks Louisville’s second SEC opponent. The Longhorns are coming off a Cinderella run in the NCAA Tournament, as Sean Miller led this Texas squad from the First Four play-in game all the way to the Sweet Sixteen, where they lost to the No. 1 seed in the West Region, the Purdue Boilermakers, 79-77.

Now, the Cardinals will have a chance to make a huge statement next season at home against Texas, as the Longhorns are trending as a way-too-early top 10 team. Right now, ESPN has Texas ranked No. 9, and CBS Sports has Texas ranked No. 7. As for the Cardinals, Louisville is trending slightly behind Texas as the Cards are ranked anywhere from No. 8 to No. 15 in way-too-early rankings. ESPN has the Cards at No. 13, and CBS Sports has Louisville at No. 15.

Louisville is looking to snap its Final Four and Sweet Sixteen drought, and a home game against Texas is an opportunity to build its resume and send a massive statement to the rest of the league. Last year, the Cardinals struggled mightily against ranked opponents, going 3-7 overall, including 0-4 against the final top 15.

The Cardinals have played Texas six times, and Louisville is 4-2 against the Longhorns. The last time these two programs squared off was at Madison Square Garden, where Texas defeated Louisville 81-80 in 2023.

Also, on the Cardinals' non-conference schedule includes the Kentucky Wildcats, whom they will play on Dec. 12 in Lexington. The Cardinals will also play Memphis, Cincinnati, and Baylor, but the dates have not yet been announced.
