Louisville basketball's true freshman Mikel Brown Jr. was recently named to the Bob Cousy Point Guard Preseason Watch List. The Louisville Cardinals have incredibly high expectations for their superstar point guard after he was ranked the No. 1 point guard in the 2025 recruiting class.
Louisville is expected to have one of the best backcourts in the nation, and a key reason is because of Brown Jr. and what he is bringing to this Cardinals team. Brown Jr. is expected to have a significant role in the 2025-26 season after leading Team USA to a gold medal and having a massive senior season in high school, and he is now earning the recognition he deserves.

Mikel Brown Jr. earns recognition for major award
Brown Jr. is one of 20 point guards on this list, and he is one of two ACC players on the prestigious list. The only other ACC guard to make this list is Markus Burton from Notre Dame.
Louisville's freshman star was ranked as the No. 6 prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, and he erupted over social media and raised his expectations after his gold medal run with Team USA this past summer. Brown Jr. led the Stars and Stripes in points, assists, efficiency, and made 3-pointers during his second gold medal run.
Brown Jr. recently made his Louisville debut against Kansas, scoring 10 points, adding five rebounds, and recording two assists. However, the 5-star point that made this prestigious list proves how high his expectations are, and that was just a fluke of a game. Brown Jr. is an elite 3-point shooter who controls the game and can weave through the paint and explode at the rim.
The Bob Cousy Award list isn't finalized, as it's updated throughout the season. Players can be added and removed from the list, and the list will be cut to 10 players in January and then down to five in March. The winner of this elite award will then be revealed at the Final Four in Indianapolis.
