Louisville basketball has had a lot of changes this offseason, and it appears they aren’t done yet. Louisville lost nine players this offseason and had to earn six commitments from the Transfer Portal and three from the 2026 recruiting class.
However, Kelsey didn’t have to replace players; he also had to replace coaches. The Cardinals lost two key coaches on Kelsey’s staff, as assistant coach Thomas Carr took an assistant position with the Indiana Hoosiers, and Louisville’s Executive Director of Player Personnel and Strategic Initiatives, Brian Kloman, left Louisville to be the general manager of the Auburn Tigers.
Now, Louisville basketball fans got crushing news on Saturday, as the Cardinals fans learned that the Louisville legend and the Cardinals assistant Peyton Siva is expected to leave the Cards and join Rick Pitino's staff at St. John's, according to Adam Zagoria of Forbes and NJ.com.

Louisville basketball to lose Peyton Siva to Rick Pitino, St. John's
Rumors that Siva might leave Louisville to coach under his former coach started swirling on the internet earlier this week, on Wednesday. The former Louisville Cardinal was the Director of Player Development and Basketball Alumni Relations for the Cardinals in the 2024-25 season and was promoted this offseason by Kelsey to a full-time assistant for the upcoming season.
During his time as a coach with Louisville, Siva was crucial in developing the Cardinals' 5-star freshman, Mikel Brown Jr. He helped Brown earn All-ACC Third-Team honors and was later drafted No. 6 overall in the NBA Draft. Siva led the program’s press and press-break efforts and played a key role in guard development.
Before Siva was on UofL’s staff, he was, of course, a Louisville basketball legend for the Cardinals. The elite guard scored 1,215 points from 2009 to 2013 and was a team captain in his final two seasons with UofL.
Siva was a key player in the Cardinals' National Title run in 2013, averaging 10 points, 2.4 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. He won the Big East Tournament Most Valuable Player award twice, and made the All-NCAA Tournament Team in 2013 when the Cardinals won the whole thing.
Siva was inducted into Louisville’s Athletics Hall of Fame this past year in 2025.
