Louisville basketball hasn't had the outcome it hoped for with the 2026 recruiting class, as the Cardinals are still without a commitment. Louisville missed out on big-time players like Tyran Stokes, Taylen Kinney, Colben Landrew, and many others in the 2026 recruiting class, forcing Kelsey to turn his attention to the 2027 class.

Kelsey has already landed two commitments in the 2027 class with 4-star recruit Ferlandes Wright and 3-star recruit Isaac Ellis. But in recent news, Louisville is trending with one of the best recruits in the 2027 class, consensus 5-star Moussa Kamissoko.

The Cardinals are trying to land that elite 5-star recruit, as they did with Mikel Brown Jr., as Kamissoko is ranked even higher than Brown as the No. 4 overall and No. 1 among small forwards. Kelsey appears to be pushing hard for the 5-star recruit, as Sam Kayser reported that the Cardinals are among the seven schools the small forward has “been hearing the most from.”

Kayser reported that the Cards are in an early recruiting battle with Arkansas, Auburn, North Carolina State, Virginia, Oklahoma State, and Penn State.

Louisville fans have quickly noticed this 2025-26 season how crucial size and length are to compete against elite teams, and Kamissoko would be a move for that criteria. The 6-foot-8, 180-pound forward would be a massive addition for the Cardinals as he is a dynamic scorer who can score off the dribble and be lethal from midrange, while he can also attack the paint and soar above the rim.

He has the ability to score at will and take over a game at anypoint. Kamissoko has long arms and is extremely athletic, which allows him to defend multiple positions while bringing high intensity on defense. He currently plays for Long Island Lutheran, where he is teammates with former Louisville 2026 target and consensus 5-star guard Dylan Mingo.

The Cardinals have missed a player like Kamissoko over the past couple of seasons, and the 5-star recruit would be an elite addition who would make an immediate impact as a player and a potential one-and-done. Kamissoko has received over 11 offers, in addition to the seven programs heavily recruiting him, including Cincinnati and Syracuse.
