The Cardinals' first game is officially here! Louisville basketball takes the court for its first regular-season game of the 2026-27 season this evening inside KFC Yum! Center. There is a lot to look forward to for Louisville basketball, as Pat Kelsey completely rebuilt this team and gave it a whole new identity.

Louisville's No. 1 target is obvious after 5-star guard Reese Alston's update

Louisville went 2-0 in their preseason, defeating No. 17 Kansas on the road, 89-83, and then defeating Mercyhurst, 71-39, inside the KFC Yum! Center. Now, they will look to improve to 1-0 as they face Chattanooga Monday night.

The last time these two teams played, UofL fans may remember it didn’t go the way they had hoped. So, with tonight hopefully going a very different way, let’s break down the odds, injuries, how to watch, and more.

Louisville injury update

Gabe Dynes: Out

Louisville got an injury update last week when Cardinals fans learned that 7-foot-6 center Gabe Dynes had shoulder surgery and will be out for several months. Dynes is a Kentucky native and one of Kelsey’s eight transfers this offseason.

He was expected to be a solid piece off the bench and add depth for UofL’s frontcourt, as Dynes was a dominant rim protector in high school and his first two seasons in college. Before USC, Dynes played at Youngstown State, where he logged 165 blocks, including 104 in his sophomore season, which ranked No. 2 in Division I basketball. He averaged 3.1 blocks per game, ranking third in Division I basketball, and then transferred to USC.

Louisville vs. Chattanooga History

These two teams have met 11 times, with Chattanooga having the better record. Louisville is 5-6 against Chattanooga after losing the previous matchup in 2023-24. Louisville started 0-5 against the Mocs in program history, but then went 5-0, tying up the matchup. However, in 2023-24, UofL lost 81-71 after shooting just 38% from the field and 33% from beyond the arc.

Louisville enters this game as the dominant favorite, as the Cardinals are 30.5-point favorites on their home court. Louisville vs. Chattanooga will tip off at 9 p.m. local time inside KFC Yum! Center.
