Louisville basketball's top priority in the 2026 recruiting class is No. 1 recruit Tyran Stokes. Stokes is a Louisville native who has won multiple gold medals for Team USA and, at 6-foot-7, 225 pounds, is nearly unstoppable. Louisville has been the dominant favorite to land Stokes throughout his recruiting process, but as of late, the Kentucky Wildcats have become the frontrunners in some experts' eyes.
On3 Sports/Rivals expert Jamie Shaw went on KSR last week and revealed that the No. 1 prospect in the nation is now "leaning" towards the Wildcats. The Cardinals and Wildcats are in a massive recruiting battle for Stokes, but it appears Louisville is in grave danger right now.

Louisville basketball's Tay Kinney update
On the positive side, the Cardinals learned they made 5-star point guard Taylen Kinney's top eight and are one step closer to earning his commitment. The Cardinals are once again in a recruiting battle with the Wildcats and six other schools for the Newport, Kentucky native, but appear to be one of the frontrunners.
Kinney took a visit to Louisville back in June 2025 and has made it clear that Pat Kelsey wants him to be a one-and-done superstar and the Cards' Mikel Brown Jr. replacement. Kinney ranks as high as the No. 1 point guard in the 2026 cycle and the No. 11 player in the nation. The other six schools Louisville is now battling for his commitment are Arkansas, Miami, Indiana, Kansas, Oregon, and Texas.

Louisville football top NFL cuts stories
Louisville football had some players learn good news while others received heartbreaking news. The Cardinals have 19 players in the NFL after the 53-man roster cuts were made on Tuesday evening, and 13 players' NFL dreams were crushed when they learned they would be cut from the team they were on for the preseason.
The two players who stood out were Corey Thornton and Ja'Corey Brooks. Thornton went on to be a Panthers standout and a hidden gem, according to Jordan Schultz. At the same time, Brooks was crushed by Terry McLaurin's new deal with the Commanders, causing them to release the former Louisville wide receiver. Thornton, on the positive side of things, made the Panthers' 53-man roster and will now try to be a solid piece on Carolina's defense after earning seven tackles and a pass breakup in the three preseason games.
