Louisville basketball is days away from the 2025-26 season tipping off against South Carolina State. Cardinals fans are buzzing with excitement, as this team has the potential to be something special and make history. However, before the fans tune in to the 2025-26 season, they jumped a few years ahead, as 247Sports recently released its first rankings for the 2028 recruiting class, and Cardinals fans quickly took notice.

Louisville hasn't had the luck it was hoping for with the 2026 recruiting class, as Pat Kelsey and his squad have yet to land a recruit from high school and have only landed London Johnson from the G League. The Cards are hoping to make a late push for 4-star Marcus Johnson, but the fans are already buying stocks in the 2028 recruiting class.

The state of Kentucky is known to be home to some elite recruits, but the class of 2028 is dominated explicitly by the city of Louisville, prompting Cardinals fans to raise their eyebrows immediately.

Four Louisville native rank in 247Sports Top 150

As many Louisville fans know, the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2026 recruiting class, Tyran Stokes, was born and raised in the city of Louisville. The city was hoping he would be a hometown hero and play in front of the city where he was born, but all the signs point to him committing to Kentucky.

Now, the fans quickly turn to the 2028 recruiting class as the city has four recruits ranked in the 247Sports Composite top 100. The star of the class from Louisville is Joshua Lindsay, who ranks as high as No. 20 in the nation, the fifth-best combo guard in the class, and the top recruit from the state of Kentucky. The 6-foot 180-pound guard is ranked as a 5-star recruit and has received over six offers, including from Auburn and Virginia Tech.

Following Lindsay is 4-star recruit Boogie Cook from the Christian Academy of Louisville. The 6-foot-6, 175-pound small forward ranks as the 11th best player in his position and No. 34 nationally in the 2028 recruiting class. The 4-star has earned an offer from Texas A&M and has gained interest from Kentucky, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Auburn, Purdue, and others.

After Cook, Jordan Mitchell, and Myles Howard, to round out the top 100. Mitchell attends Louisville Male High School and is ranked No. 89 in the nation and the No. 16 combo guard in the class, while Howard is Cook's teammate and attends Christian Academy of Louisville and is ranked No. 100 in the nation and is the No. 13 point guard in the class.

There is, of course, so much time before these recruits make any decision, but Louisville recently earned a visit from the 5-star recruit in Lindsay, and the city is hoping that Kelsey has better luck with these Louisville natives than he did with Stokes. So, if Louisville does end up striking out on Stokes, the city is quickly turning to the 2028 class and hoping the Cards can land some hometown kids and dominate the cycle.
