Louisville fans already calling for Jeff Brohm to bench Miller Moss in ACC opener

The Transfer Portal can be a dice roll, and after Tyler Shough developed into a star for Jeff Brohm at Louisville last season, Cardinals fans are feeling like Brohm rolled snake eyes after seeing the first quarter of the team’s 2025 ACC opener with Miller Moss.

Louisville spotted Pitt a 17-0 lead with a disastrous start from Moss that included his third interception of the year, a pick-six returned for a score by Pitt linebacker Rasheem Biles. Moss has been accurate throwing downfield and has struggled with sacks early on against the Panthers, leading to a significant road deficit.

Brohm’s squad was able to get on the board after a botched punt return by Pitt set Louisville up in the red zone. Moss ultimately ran in a touchdown, but that isn’t making the fanbase feel much better about his performance.

Moss is Brohm’s third-straight portal quarterback in his third season since returning to his alma mater. While Brohm has done plenty of winning, 19 games over his first two seasons and a 3-0 start in 2025, it’s been mixed results at the position that he once played for the Cardinals. Shough was excellent a year ago, but in 2023, Purdue transfer Jack Plummer, who followed Brohm from the Boilermakers, wasn’t exactly a fan favorite.

Yet, frustrated fans would even consider taking back Plummer for this year’s team. Especially after Moss’s disastrous start to ACC play.

Moss was benched midseason in 2024 at USC, and while Brohm has been one of the better offensive playcallers in the country with a reputation for developing quarterbacks alongside his brother Brian, who serves as his offensive coordinator, there was some skepticism about Brohm’s ability to squeeze more out of Moss in his final year of eligibility if Lincoln Riley, who has produced three Heisman Trophy winners at the position, couldn’t.

So far in 2025, Jayden Maiava, who replaced Moss for the Trojans, is the most efficient passer in the country, and Moss has struggled to get his footing with the Cardinals. The fear is that he never will, and that’s why some fans are already calling for his backup, Brady Allen.

Allen is a redshirt junior who beat out Deuce Adams for the QB2 job. He could see an increased role going forward, and Moss may be benched for the second straight season. It will be especially frustrating if Brohm whiffed at the most important position on the field in a year when the ACC feels wide open with Clemson struggling and Florida State falling to Virginia on Friday night in Week 5.
