While Louisville football dominated the scoreboard, defeating Eastern Kentucky 51-17, the Cardinals have a lot of work to do before Week 2, especially before conference play. The Cardinals' starters dominated all phases of the ball and showed a lot of potential, but the fans are making it known that they are not entirely impressed, and Louisville must clean up the penalties.

The fans took to social media after the game for some overreactions, and Cardinals fans called out the team for their performance, despite winning by 37 points. They have a fair point. Louisville committed 13 penalties Saturday afternoon, and if the Cardinals want to compete for an ACC Title, they must clean things up on both sides of the ball.

Louisville football fans want the Cardinals to fix the penalties

The Cardinals logged 542 yards against Eastern Kentucky and gave up just 150 total yards defensively. However, Louisville committed 13 penalties for 108 yards, which is nearly the amount of yards their defense gave up.

The Cardinals' penalties are a glaring area of concern after Week 1, and Jeff Brohm can't be happy with this as he enters preparation for James Madison. Louisville has its eyes set on returning to Charlotte for the ACC Championship game, which means they will have to beat either Clemson or Miami in the regular season. For that to happen, the Cardinals can't throw three interceptions and commit 13 penalties.

Now, this is an overreaction, but the fans have the right to be slightly disappointed with the penalties. The interceptions are different. The pick-six was Moss's fault, but besides that, he threw for 255 yards and a touchdown. The fans were impressed with Moss, except for his one mistake. He was connecting on deep passes, getting the ball out quickly, and demonstrating leadership qualities.

The other interception wasn't his fault, and backup Brady Allen threw the third pick. However, the penalties are a different story. The fans have a reason to raise an eyebrow with that.

The Cardinals need to clean this up before Week 2, which is a short week. James Madison is a sneaky team that can put up a fight with the Cardinals. Outside of penalties, the Cardinals dominated and showed they can compete for an ACC Title.

Week 1 comes with some mistakes like this, but the fans are making it clear that they want this fixed and expect this to be fixed as the season progresses.
