Louisville football is getting a lot of national media attention after three weeks of play, and it looks like Jeff Brohm is trying to capitalize on it off the field. The Cardinals currently have 17 commitments in the 2027 recruiting class, but the Cards aren’t done yet.
Brohm and company had a major weekend vs. SMU, hosting multiple recruits for the Cardinals' big game, and now, following Louisville’s huge win, they are going to host an elite 4-star safety. And not just any 4-star safety; Louisville is trying to rip Tristin Hughes from the Cardinals' in-state rival, the Kentucky Wildcats.
Louisville football hosting 4-star Kentucky commit
Louisville is making moves on a Kentucky commit, as Brohm and Vince Marrow look to flip this elite 4-star safety. Hughes has been committed to Kentucky since April 18 and visited Kentucky over the summer in June, but now, according to 247Sports Jacob Polacheck, Hughes is visiting Louisville this weekend for the Cardinals showdown against Wake Forest.

Hughes earned over 25 offers, including from Louisville, Auburn, BYU, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, and many other notable programs. The Cardinals have been very active in multiple states for the 2027 recruiting class, but Kentucky and Ohio stand out.
Right now, 10 of Louisville’s 17 commitments come from Ohio or Kentucky, including four Ohio commitments. Louisville is trying to add its fifth Ohio commitment to its 2027 recruiting class, and he would be the second 4-star commitment from Ohio.
Hughes currently ranks as high as a top-200 recruit in the nation, with Rivals ranking him No. 177. Rivals ranks him No. 17 among safeties, while 247 Sports ranks him No. 15 among ATH. He is a top-10 recruit from Ohio, ranking No. 9 out of the state, which is two ranks higher than Louisville’s 4-star commit, D'Angelo White
The Cardinals' 2027 recruiting class currently has four 4-star commitments, including Ja’Hyde Brown, who ranks as high as No. 66 in the nation, No. 11 among wide receivers, and No. 2 among Kentucky recruits.
Hughes would be a massive addition to the Cardinals' 2027 recruiting class, and ripping him away from Kentucky and Will Stein would make it even better. Keep an eye on this one moving forward, as Louisville has a big-time guest coming this weekend.
