Louisville football learned crushing news this afternoon as the Cardinals lost a 4-star commit after a weekend visit to the Indiana Hoosiers. Back in March, Jeff Brohm and his Cardinals earned a verbal commitment from defensive lineman Kevontay Hugan. However, after Hugan visited the Hoosiers, he announced this afternoon that he would decommit from Louisville.
The 4-star defensive linemen recently visited the Hoosiers on June 6 and have an official visit lined up with Louisville this weekend, per 247Sports. This is a big-time loss for the Cardinals' 2026 class as Hugan is ranked as high as a 4-star recruit, No. 431 in the nation, No. 46 in his position, and No. 37 out of the state of Florida.
Louisville's 2026 class will now have 16 commitments and four 4-stars. The loss of Hugan will hurt, but if he keeps his visit this weekend, fans have seen this before, of gaining a recruit's commitment back. This weekend is crucial for the Cardinals if they want to earn his commitment back, as he continues to rise, receiving over 28 offers from elite programs like Penn State, USC, Miami, and more.
I’ve decided to decommit from the University of Louisville my recruitment is 100% open.

Louisville football loses 4-star commit right after he took a weekend visit to Indiana
Hugan was one of Brohm's top commitments in the 2026 cycle, as he was just one of five 4-stars to commit to Louisville. The Cardinals' 2026 cycle was ranked as high as No. 10 in the nation, but after Hugan's decommitment, Louisville dropped to No. 21, per 247Sports. On3 Sports currently ranks Louisville as No. 22.
Louisville has done a solid job of keeping their verbal commitments, but it is worth noting that Hugan is the third recruit to decommit, following the most recent one, the touted offensive lineman Joel Ervin. The Cardinals will look to earn commitments from the recruits they hosted over the past two crucial recruiting weekends, as Louisville hosted over 15 recruits on campus.
It will be challenging to replace Hugan and his production, as he dominated his junior season at Booker High School, earning an astounding 118 tackles, including 36 tackles for a loss and 18 sacks. Hugan was emerging as one of the Cardinal's best commitments in the 2026 cycle, as his dominant presence on the defensive side has extremely high potential at the college level.
